The Actual Plays are AWESOME.
Can't wait for more. Your sound quality for the Acutal play is really good on the L5R game - Total Win
Can't wait for the next one...

Yup. That was definitely a "balls on the table" moment for Dave. Awesome.
Thanks. There will be more.

Hmm listening at work meant that I missed that part. I will definitely give a tip of the hat to Dave for that one. I played L5R off and on for fifteen years. I only ever had one character survive to rank 4. All the others either died in combat honorably, or committed seppukku. I always say that if you've played L5R for more than a year and never had a character death... you're doing something wrong.

Almost done listening to the L5R AP, and I'm really enjoying it! I'm looking forward to the next one.
Also, I was happy to hear Tyler mention Kingdom of Loathing. I haven't played it in a while, but now I think I may have to revisit it.

I agree with the ap recordings being a lot of fun...I usually listen at work, and they spread out really well over a 12 hour shift with plenty of pauses.

As an RSS idiot, I want to say thanks for putting it up on iTunes. I know how to do that, and how to subscribe to that, so I won't miss anything. --Pukka Tukka

So from a sound geek perspective... What was the size of this original file ? The sound quality is good; much better than many other AP podcasts I've heard. I'd like to record some of our groups games for posterity; I.e. Shits and grins. Wooden tables or overly hard dice rolling surfaces seem like a bad idea. As does eating marbles or gravel or whatever was consumed during this one...someone said pie but it must have had rocks in it. Otherwise, really fun to listen to, especially the mighty Samurai CADave and his ultimatums!

A previous post in this forum claimed that CADave was eating trail mix. I claim he was chewing on the mountainous kingly growth called his nutsack. BEHOLD!!!

The original file was huge, because it was a 24-bit wav file. I don't remember the actual file size, but it was well over a gig.
I'm surprised the dice rolling is loud. We're on a plastic folding table with a chessex vinyl game mat on top of it. I may look at the EQ and see if I can quiet it down.
The snack of choice is rice crackers. Just so you know, it gets worse in the second session...

I am very sensitive to loud and annoying sounds... just ask PukkaTukka. I didn't find the dice all that annoying. To be perfectly honest I didn't really notice the dice at all really.

I listen on ear buds while at work. The dice on the L5R#1 AP were noticeably loud, but not painfully so. S'all good.

I'm listening to Part 2 of the AP and am cracking up at the tea ceremony stuff. "Anybody spend a Void Point today? I got some tea for ya!" ;D About the "お (O)" prefix, I don't think I've ever heard it added to a proper name. I've only heard it added to "thing" words, and it's just a part of polite speech. Like 酒 (さけ, sake) becomes お酒 (o-sake) and 電話 (でんわ, denwa, meaning telephone) becomes お電話. The "さま (-sama)" suffix is used when referring to someone of a much higher level than you. So 姫(ひめ, hime, meaning princess) often becomes 姫さま (hime-sama). You can also use さま to refer to yourself, like 俺様 (ore-sama), to mark yourself as an extremely arrogant bastard. It's the equivalent of saying "my esteemed self...". Other useful suffixes are: - -さん (-san), your basic Mr., Ms., or Mrs.
- -ちゃん (-chan), used when referring to children, babies, teenage girls, grandparents, or other people you find childish or endearing (not young boys, though). Also, a great way for one guy to insult another; tack this onto the end of a guy's name and (unless you're a woman or his lover) you're basically calling him a little nancy boy. So cadave should just add -chan to the end of tyler's character's name to insult him.
Some women add -chan to their own names (and talk in the third person) because they think it's childish and cute. Most people think it sounds incredibly stupid though.
- -くん (-kun), used when a superior is referring to someone below them, or to male babies or children. Guys can also use -kun among other male friends.
- -せんぱい (-sempai), used to refer to someone in a school, club, or business-type situation with more experience than you. So a student tutor of a higher grade than you would be a -sempai. Teachers aren't -sempai, they're -せんせい (-sensei), and students of your grade are -こはい (-kohai).

Also, the dead flesh thing(while it may also be a Japanese thing, I don't know) is DEFINITELY a Rokugan/L5R thing. I don't know if this is in the newer books, but in older books Void Points were supposed to represent your extra reserve, that something extra that lets you do things you normally couldn't do. So, the tea ceremony thing was supposed to represent you re-centering yourself and recharging that "something extra" pool. You don't just get it from drinking tea you damn douchebags. A yojimbo is a bodyguard. Uh oh, the old "does the first strike in an Extra Attack maneuver hit if you miss" argument. Just for clarity's sake you should realize that you CANNOT make more raises than your void rank unless you have an advantage or technique that makes it otherwise. Just sayin'.
