Because of my new job and its schedule I've had to drop nearly all of my games that I was GMing. Now I run Wild Talents and play in a Pathfinder game. The only time I have available anymore is Sundays. Would there be any interest out there in me running a Google + game of L5R on Sunday afternoon/evenings? Definitely be interested in getting in on that Sir! Let me know when you're thinking of starting...

I have to say Stu, the more I listen the more I am impressed on your grasp of the culture and the storyline. You have grabbed more than most people that I played with for years. Good on ya mate.

Thank you.
I have tried to understand the setting enough so that a) I wouldn't drive L5R fans crazy and B) it would give people a good sense of the setting.

Also, if anyone is interested in an L5R game on Sundays I started a thread here. Oh, and Stu. I got this idea because you mentioned you wanted to play in the system so feel free to sign yourself up.

Hello Everybody: Long time Listener, First time caller I have to admit I've Loved the show since I stumbled across it about a year ago ( and yes I did the insane thing and went back and digested the back log, but it was very much worth it) but I hadn't felt the need to Speak up here on the forums till now. Stu, Stork, CADave & Tyler... My wife is gonna kill you!! Your AMAZING L5R Actual Play episodes are responsible for a $220 dollar (Canadian) hole in my bank account. I honestly can't wait for episode 4 to drop because I have to find out what happens next. oh and about Dave's Character Nikoma, I always picture him looking like Toshiro Mifune in Yojimbo and Sanjuro Keep up the Great Work - Midnight

I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I have no idea what a Japanese hangover cure is. I've gotten lots of Western ones from the fellow teachers I've hung out with over the years, but no Japanese ones. Sorry. CADave probably was right though; a hot bowl of rice sounds OK. Maybe with a raw egg on top. I've tried it one or twice (while sober) and couldn't manage to choke it down. The texture of the egg feels like someone sneezed all over your rice. Really loving the APs, guys. Stork's comments at the end of the episode is exactly how I like to run all of my games. Put the PCs in a situation where there's no real clean solution to the problem at hand, and there'll be consequences no matter what course of action they take. Nice one Stu. Looking forward to seeing (hearing?) CADave, Stork, and Tyler hang themselves with the length of rope you've given them. If you want to go full on, cheesy Japanese drama mode, cut down on the conversations a bit. Characters in Japanese dramas don't really talk to each other all that much. It's more like they just monologue while other people happen to be in the room next to them. Occasionally the monologue is directed at another character, but usually whoever's talking just turns to the camera and jabbers on for a bit while the other characters stand in the background looking at them.

The whippersnappers won't get this, but every time you guys say "Nikoma" I picture a Native American guy running around with Dan Haggerty...

Hangover cures? screen.yahoo.com/hangover-cures-180812171.html Health coach Carey Peters shares some hangover cures, such as fermented coconut water, with host Judy Greer. I am watching/listening to this now and finding it rather interesting. Not much of a hangover guy, I cannot vouch for these remedies. But for a game mechanic, why not? Coffee enema.

Just finished the second session of L5R. Great stuff.
A few answers to questions...
The White Hair. The lady Doji, the Kami who founded the Crane clan, had white hair. Today, many Crane will dye their hair white to honour her.
To Tyler (I think), Re: The Crab.... HIDA!!!! Oh... and mock not the Wall. The Wall is all that stands between your paradise and the nightmares of the Shadowlands. You're welcome. ^.-
The testusbo is a proud weapon capable of caving in even the most armoured oni's skull. Treat it with the respect that it deserves... (speaking as a Crab, I may... just may... be biased...)
Kakita was the man responsible for inventing dueling. There's a... spirited discussion between that family and the Mirumoto of the Dragon as to who's dueling style is strongest.
To Stork about the qualifications and effectiveness of your characters: You would be surprised, I think. This is sorta how Rokugani police work goes. Much like feudal Japan, Rokugan doesn't solve crimes based on investigation and evidence, but on testimony. There are numerous cases where the magistrates picked someone and coerced a confession out of them. And since the honour of a magistrate is above reproach, they couldn't be lying!! ^.- You three are actually remarkably effective "police".

Okay, I heard you guys debating what's better as far as getting more to roll vs. more to keep and how big of a difference it is, so I was curious and made this. (some boring meetings this week) L5R - expected average rolls (includes exploding 10's | | Roll | | | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | keep | 2 | 12.2 | 15.8 | 18.4 | 20.4 | 22.2 | 23.8 | 25.2 | 26.4 | | 3 | | 18.3 | 22.4 | 25.6 | 28.1 | 30.3 | 32.2 | 34.0 | | 4 | | | 24.4 | 28.9 | 32.4 | 35.4 | 37.8 | 40.0 |
If there is something like this in the book, I'd be curious how far off mine is, mine is purely a numerical simulation excercise. it also might help give you an idea how likely it is to get that raise or two.

STU!!!! If you name the games after their actual games like "L5R Campaign Session 1" instead of "Game 2" I can guarantee that more people will listen. I did a google search for L5R actual plays and Happy jacks didn't pop up at all. When I first started getting into podcasts, I searched for actual plays. I didn't just type "actual plays" into the googles. I typed "4th Edition D&D Actual Play". It will help spread the cult of HappyJacks. . . . . . . . . one of us. . . .one of us. . . ONE OF US. . . .ONE OF US!!!

It's weird listening to yourself on the ol' interwebs. At least the sound quality on the GURPS game wasn't too bad. Loving the live plays in general, Stu! Can't wait for the next installment of L5R.

A while back I ran a campaign set in a setting loosely based on Three-Kingdoms era China. I could have used bad Chinese accents for all the NPCs. Instead I used bad English accents for one kingdom, bad French accents for another and bad Spanish accents for the third.
That campaign didn't last very long - for what I'm sure are totally unrelated reasons.
