All right, this is probably going to be a fairly long shot, but here we go. I want to run some Skype games of Monsterhearts. I love the horrible, messed up shit that goes on in those games and want to share that with my fellow Happy Jackers. Plus, I had a blast running those Dungeon World games for everyone. Everyone here probably knows what I mean thanks to the thread I started here. If you're interested, just post your name below. I'll probably cap the number of players at three (not including me, the MC) as the game is very player driven and hard to manage with many more than that. Applicants will also have to watch some related media before the session (don't worry though, I won't force anyone to watch Twilight), will have to be proactive, and (most importantly) be comfortable with teenage sex in games. Or at least be willing to experiment. We'll settle on some safe words before we start playing. Any takers out there?

Having read the character sheets, and seen you talk about it on twitter, etc. I would definitely want to give this a try.

Sweet. And thanks for reminding me, scubasteve. You can get the Skin booklets (character sheets) here, and the reference sheets (both player and GM) here. Both for free from the author's website. No promises if anything will make sense with out the context of the full rules, though. I also have all the "Limited Edition" Skins, including The Angel, The Hollow, The Selkie, and The Serpentine. In. You had me at twighlight. Just a heads up there, D. T. Pints. Vampires don't fucking sparkle.

OK. That'll be the player cap for the first game then. As with Dungeon World, if more people are interested in playing, I'll add additional games. Scubasteve, D.T. Pints, SirGuido, and forresst, you guys have a bit of homework. Watch some supernatural romance media. I highly recommend these: - Jennifer's Body (movie)
- Ginger Snaps (movie)
- True Blood (TV series)
- The Secret Circle (TV series)
- The Vampire Diaries (TV series)
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV series)
Those go in order of what to watch, with Jennifer's Body and Ginger Snaps being tied for first place. Those two movies are quintessential Monsterhearts examples, in my opinion. You can practically pick out what Skins the main characters are and what Moves they're using to create the fiction. They combine, blood, sex, high school, and the supernatural in a way that is just perfect. True Blood is not high school, but it has the same kind of tone and fucked up messy relationships, so it's good source material. Vampire Diaries starts out promising, but then gets kind lame after the 4th or 5th episode. Buffy is another good example of dramatic, high school relationships, but you won't be fighting any monsters (other than the ones inside each of your characters). I'm not going to say don't watch Twilight, but I'm not going to force anyone to do so, either. If you do watch it, focus on how fucking creepy Edward is, and what a pathetic doormat Bella is. There's nothing sexy or normal about their relationship at all. It's every kind of fucked up, and I don't know how most people can't see that. They are totally broken though, making them perfect Monsterhearts character examples. If you do grab the Skin booklets from the link above, don't worry about anything on the inside pages just yet. Feel free to read the italic flavor text on the front page of every Skin, and the "Playing the [Skin]' section on the back page if you feel so inclined. Sunday mornings Japan time was best for me, which translates to Saturday afternoon on the West Coast leading to Saturday evening and then night as you move to the East Coast. Practically all of my Sundays are free, so people can start throwing out dates of when they'd be available.

Think something like The Little Mermaid. The Selkie is the literal fish out of water; someone who doesn't belong here and who doesn't understand what's going on, but is trying to fit in. I hadn't planned to go too deep into it yet, but in Monsterhearts, each type of monster is actually a metaphor for some kind of messed up behavior. The Selkie is the outsider. The kid who doesn't fit in. The one who's always on the edge of groups but never included because they just don't get stuff.

Hmm depends on the Saturday and how often we would play. This coming Saturday is my Gaming Horror Pathfinder game which I wouldn't mind missing a session or two of(but I don't want to cut out for more than that), and then its every other Saturday after that. The opposite Saturdays are my Wild Talents game.

They do if you throw them into a vat of broken glass shards...and garlic infused holy water.

Well, I'd planned to do a one-shot, like the Dungeon World games, so scheduling shouldn't be that problematic SirGuido. We'll just find a Saturday afternoon/evening that everyone State-side is available. If people are keen to continue with a monthly game, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. One-shots are fun to show off the system and style of Apocalypse World-based games, but the second session is where things really start picking up. In the first session, you generate all these story elements and moving pieces as you explore. Then in subsequent sessions you watch them all collide and spin out of control, and watch the players scramble to deal with the fallout. ;D The Ghoul is one of my favorite Skins, forresst. It can also be really freaking scary. See the Ghoul is that kid who doesn't care about anything. They're too cool to bother with this bullshit, until something catches their interest. Then they become laser focused obsessed with that thing to the exclusion of everything else. Including people. I dunno if you caught it in the AP write-up I posted, but there was nearly a rape in our last session involving the Ghoul. So it's my favorite Skin, and I'm not going to say don't play it, just be prepared for how much of a monster you might end up being. They do if you throw them into a vat of broken glass shards...and garlic infused holy water. I laughed so hard at that I fell out of my chair. Nice. ;D It's worth bringing up that the monsters in Monsterhearts don't necessarily follow the supernatural rules we're so used to. Can your Vampire go out in the sunlight? Is your Ghost solid to the touch? Does your Werewolf change every night or only under the full moon? That's for you to decide. If you think it would be awesome to have those wrenches thrown at you so you can find ways to deal with them, then they're part of the setting. If those things don't interest or excite you, then they don't get dealt with. Also, one Skin is off the table. The Chosen. I'd prefer it if people didn't pick that Skin, as I don't like how it shifts the focus of the game.

OK. I've sent out PMs to everyone, but it looks like Saturday, March 23 (for people in the Western hemisphere) and Sunday March 24 (for me) is the time slot when most people can make it. SirGuido is running his Wild Talents game then, but hopefully he'll be able to join us if I run another session in the near future. I'll make a new thread over in the Apocalypse World-Based subforum for questions about the game, rather than cluttering up this subforum. Plus it'll add mre posts to the new subforum. ;D
