We played the first session on Friday night. Even with some scheduling comedy, we ended up with all four players.
Went well.

RULES LAWYERING ALERT!!! So, nice episode overall, but you guys got some things wrong, so in the interest of showing how huge my penis is I figured I'd let you guys know where you fucked up. You're welcome! 1) Damage rolls get a number of bonus dice based on extra successes rolled on the attack. (Ex: 5 attack successes = +4 damage dice). I believe Tim may have applied those extra successes as automatic extra damage, I may be wrong but that's how it sounded to me. 2) After a soak roll, vampires divide Bashing damage by half, so tackles and general brawling combat take a very long time to take a vampire down. I think you may have skipped that bit, hence why the dude went down so fast when he was tackled by Tim's character. 3) Initiative is simply 1d10 + Initiative Modifier (which is Dexterity + Wits). I'm sure you guys messed up on a whoooole lot of other things but it's late and I can't remember them all, but I'm sure others will chime in soon enough to show you the error of your ways. Keep on drinkin' and gamin'!

This will be the first time I pay attention to the forums as a new HJ AP develops. I've had some interest in the White Wolf stuff, so I'll be watching this one closely. So I don't mind seeing rules clarifications such as RudeAlert posted. Although penis size is still in doubt. I just want to make sure, though, I know stu is playing the 20th anniversary edition of VtM. Probably so he can justify its purchase before 4th Edition comes out. Anyway, is there any discrepancy between the original version's rules and the 20th Anniversary rules for any of the above points? Also, stu, how did you go about making that neat little techno intro? I haven't tried making any electronic music since my days messing with FruityLoops. You know, before it was called FL Studio. So... 2003 or so?

Anyway, is there any discrepancy between the original version's rules and the 20th Anniversary rules for any of the above points? V:tM has had three major editions. I'm going to assume by "original version" you mean the revised 3rd edition, which is what was current when WW ended the line and from what V20 builds. There are some discrepancies, but they are fairly minor. Basically after three editions and more splatbooks than I care to count, the rules were... fragmented. V20 cleans up that fragmentation. Off the top of my head, some of the more apparent changes have to do with Attributes (talents/skills/knowledges) and a re-work of the Celerity, Fortitude, and Potence disciplines. There's some other stuff, but again it's clean-up and clarify stuff, not radically rework the game mechanics.

I'm about 1hr20m in, and I gotta say that my favourite part so far has been the glee in Probie Tim's voice when he exclaims how great it is to be playing VtM. And, oof, that "roll for your starting blood pool" - that's rough. Thank God for Herd 3. Edit... 2:20 in. Up to now it sounded like Stork's Gangrel was a casual killer and regular feed-til-they're-empty guy. But I figured it was hyperbole. Then he "seduced" the chick in the bar, and was pretty casual about offing her. Humanity scores in this game must be pretty low... Or will be. Also sounds like Prince Andrew must have a rough time keeping the Masquerade under control in this town with such kill-happy subjects. Edit... After the break. Regarding blood, blood points, Herd, and mortal recovery from feeding, Stu Venable : I used to give whole blood every six weeks, I currently give plasma twice a week. By the book, it takes a mortal one day to recover a blood point worth of feeding. Many STs I've read about house rule this to one per week, which is still generous if you count a point as a pint. Other STs only consider a pint a point for "banked" blood, in pint bags in a fridge for example, taking the opinion that blood is just the medium of transmission for life force, which is what they consider the vampire to truly be feeding on. By the book, Kimi's Ventrue could feed two points off each of her herd on separate days, giving each one two days of downtime, and they would be fine - giving her wiggle room for expenditure like Blush Of Life or Discipline usage. Maybe you cover this later in the recording, but since I sometimes go hours or days before finishing an episode, I wanted to weigh in. Info on this is in the Damage section, I think, in the Mortals subsection. (In Tim's game my character has fifteen members of her herd, my problem isn't keeping fed, it's finding what to do with the surplus!)

Okay, lemme try this again: Stu Venable - the only reason I'm as conversant with the Herd rules and the recovery abilities of mortals is from having recently gone over them so carefully after going through character gen for LA By Fire. I actually found reference to the 1/day recovery in a forum post, and didn't believe it at first - it seemed crazy next to my experiences at the blood bank. It makes more sense if you follow the "life force" line of thinking though... when you consider that you can pull three blood points out of a vessel in one go, that's a lot of volume if you're adhering to the point=pint school of thought. In the course of the game Kimi mentions her Ventrue has a three-member herd; I hope she's not misreading the Herd background. Three members is a single dot worth; if she actually has three dots in Herd that's fifteen Herd members. Just a thought, since I have no idea how she built her character... And yes, Kimi, fabulous riches and a cell phone can get you real far. In retrospect I was thinking about my earlier comments on stork and Samantha's characters and possible Humanity... issues... and think maybe they're a product of their environment. The island sounds kind of like a herpes sore on the crotch of humanity, a hive of scum, villainy, and sex... The game so far sort of reminds me of the early days of the Inukai saga. That's a good thing.

Yeah, sbloyd is right. With the Herd background you get 3, 7, 15, 30, and 60 vessels at •, ••, •••, ••••, and ••••• respectively.

That was an amazingly good liveplay. I don't think you guys have posted a game that wasn't a joy to listen to. Inukai, Eldemy, Star Wars, and now this. All winners. Thanks for recording, gang.

It was pretty damn entertaining. I have only wanted to play Vampire a couple of times in my life . . . and listening to this AP was one of them. Great Job Happy Jack-Offs. Beer is good.

Still listening, but two things I want to talk about. 1. Stork's three roll seduction - I know nothing of the VtM rules, but listening, it struck me that these rolls should not have been taken in one encounter. I thought, as I listened, that the mechanic was designed to reflect three separate "dates." Can any more expert listeners comment? As it turned out though, I really liked the scene and thought it worked dramatically, Bolt Upright (he'll always be Bolt to me, I was a big fan of his back in the day *weg*) attracted the woman, small-talked her on the beach, but when he made a move on her, she said "no". Of course, he is a vampire, and vampires are monsters, so he bit her anyway. A perfect analogy for rape. (Not saying Stork is a rapist of course, just that I thought was his character did was a good dramatic analogy for rape.) 2. stu, stu, stu, you spent all of Inukai saying "the thing to do is get the PCs away from their Daimyo." How is Lord Anthony any different?
