Well the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled and we can look around the remains of the battlefield and make sense of what happened. I hesitate to say 'we' won but 'we' didn't lose our collective rags and the best insults were usually self directed . . . So at the very least 'we' enjoy self-abuse . I, like EricfromNJ, believe he initially posted to start trouble, or at least an argument, and got bored because HJ was surprisingly supportive of his original 'complaint' rather than 'outraged' or offensive. No, I don't think he believes he is actually a Troll rather he has a strong set of beliefs about gaming that tend not to shared by this board, but if the cap fits . . . ?. Yes I did go out of my way to prod a response from him on his home board - go visit it . . . He's right I did question him but I wasn't rude or contentious I merely clarified those points and challenged several of his blanket statements with working examples . . . because his reasoning was flawed and believe misrepresented the game in question. He still never replied directly to those criticisms . . . Claiming the 'right to an opinion' . . . To which I respond 'am I not also entitled to one too? That still doesn't answer the question?'. Anyway, I accept his challenge . . . Go visit the board, read the thread, and draw your own conclusions. In response he came back here, which is exactly what I wanted (don't fuck with a psych graduate we have 'our ways'), and resumes the same pattern. His initial returning statement was a blatant dig at the ethos of this board and all it's members . . . Though it was so couched as an attempt to make it seem ambiguous. I called bullshit and he protested but never actually responded to the direct question about how his comment(s) were designed to be both insulting and provocative of the HJ's community. EricfromNJ also called bullshit and several other posters politely challenged his opinions (nb: not him just his comments about gaming). That's when things got to really heat up and I'll confess a totally evil joy at the fact that he had incited what I believe was a mildly amusing flame war. He pm'd me about my earlier comments about 'ratcunts' and I gave him a comprehensive pm reply (which was not abusive . . . Want a copy I'll forward it on if requested). I think his actual issue was with the chosen vernacular ('ratcunt') as all he replied after that was that I should 'either drink more or drink less' - to that I say "fuck yeah, awesome!! Drink more!!" . I did respond in another pm but it remains unread as at that point Malifer delivers what I believe to be the killing blow. Malifer comments in a well constructed thread that the notion of gaming that Arturick describes sounds, in Malifers opinion and compared to the type of game Malifer describes as preferring to play, 'boring'. This provokes the first real response as a direct personal attack on a poster - after all the abuse and colourful use of profanities preceding - Arturick manages to call Malifer an 'arsehole' and then appears to have spat the dummy, thrown his Tonka Truck out of the sandpit and gone home . . . Kudos Malifer

The Happy Jacks community is a surprisingly non-contentious group. Most people with gripes seem to be outside the community. (A very funny story which I shall relate in a moment) Which is one of the reasons I was originally drawn to the podcast and the community as a whole. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a lively debate and will happily partake but bitching for the sake of bitching, complaining for the sake of complaining, fighting for the sake of fighting just don't interest me.
Now to my story which has been related elsewhere on these forums.
At a con in the not too distant past which was lightly attended by HJ folks a member of our community was at a game run by a member of another group (A group for which both the HJ'er and myself have great respect) when there was a disturbance in the hall. Not a fight or anything like that, just some voices raised and such. Other people around the table said, "Oh it's those Happy Jacks people." To which someone else added, "Yeah they're so obnixious." The HJ'er offered, "I don't think it's them, there's only one Happy Jacks game going on right now, and it's way down the hall. (It was a game of mine). "Oh no," quoth they, it's those Happy Jacks people." "You mean like me?" responded our champion holding up her badge which said 'Happy Jacks Podcast' on it. Silence around the table. Fortunately they were able to get past it and enjoy their game.
I relate this tale with a certain glee I admit, but it does point up something that I think we need to be aware of, and that is how we are perceived by others. I for one do not want to come across as over proud or obnoxious. I have great respect for other groups and how they choose to game. I am proud to be part of this community. I hope I have something to contribute. But I am not so arrogant as to believe that my way or our way is the only way to game.
Cheers,
JiB

So, I have to admit, ever since I heard the letter about AW, and read Hyvemynd's post on D-DM, I really want to play a game. I am considering Monster of the Week, because I love the whole hunter vibe. Has anyone gotten a few good plays of this,or any of the varients? I'd be glad to hear any reviews or impressions.
