So, last episode the topic of organized play came up, and while discussing it I think Stork may have brought up the topic of whether or not the world presented is persistent in any fashion. Which got some of us in the chatroom to consider the idea of maybe not exactly an organized play sort of game, but rather just a persistent shared world for Happy Jackers for example. The games run in would be managed by a few GMs so as to make sure plots don't get stepped on, can be intertwined, and stuff like that.
So I decided to bring this to you guys. What do you think about a "Jackerworld" so to speak. What sort of genre should it be, what system would work best, what would you guys think would work best, and lastly, if this did get off the ground, should this become a staple of Jackercon, and potentially other cons. So, what say you douchebags, shall we do this?

I haven't listened to the episode yet, but I'd say that the only way it would work would be to steal the world concept from RIFTS / Infinite Worlds / Sigil / Floating Vagabond and make it a crossroads of genres. Kind of an 'anything goes' with maybe a committee generated Super-Plot going on in the background. Start a GMs only thread and keep the updates in there. Any player who reads it is just asking to ruin Christmas. So to speak.

I guess, I was personally hoping for a more straight one genre thing, simply because all genres will create a large multiverse for sure, but that means a large multiverse. Thus more maintenance and stuff. Though, that's my view of things.

There's no reason it can't be single genre. There have been plenty of shared world projects that didn't go the multi-genre crossroads route.
Thieve's World and Wild Cards are just two examples.

Yeah, those are the ones I think of to be honest. Thieve's World, Wild Cards, Bordertown are three that immediately hop to mind.

I've been wanting to create a Happy Jacks fanzine for a LONG time now. I just don't have the skills necessary to lay one out properly. There should be columns and departments where folks could write up system agnostic bits to be used in games, advice columns, NPCS, etc. Everything would be summed up with a single theme. Probably quarterly/seasonally. This "shared world" would be perfect to include in that.

Could the layout be solved using either obsidian portal or producing PDFs ? The multi genre question: I would suggest people have a look at Moorcock's Jerry Cornelious books . . . Multi genre shared world including 'open source' characters: one book, The Nature of the Catastrophe' was a collection of others authors works using this shared open source fictional world. Aaron

I do think a shared world would be "the bomb" as the kids say these days. But I also think it would work best if the mechanics of the various games were omitted, in order to make a non-system specific setting. So I think if we were to make a shared world only names, motivations, mannerisms, occupations, goals & other roleplay information should be the only thing to be made for the world.

I think the first step would be to run a poll to figure out which genre people would prefer. You get the added benefit of a raw count of interested parties this way. Then you'd probably want to have a googly hangout of everyone to get at least a small timeline nailed down all together. Then you could either make dropbox documents to work on or team up for world chunks. Then you could use a wiki or an obsidian portal page to hold it!

I support the shared world concept.
I actually plan to make mention of Stu's Inukai stuff in the game I'm running, it will mostly be a passing reference, but might come into greater play.

Well, before I post up a Poll, I think this is a good a time as any to mention that myself, Tomes, and DTPintz will be(hopefully) starting up a Fancast essentially for Happy Jacks. Basically putting our input on whatever they had talked about, and posting it up on G+ later on. The first Fancast episode was probably going to deal with this, along with whatever the cast decides to talk about.

The community WANTS TO BE HEARD! . Listener Invasion EpisodeLords of the Douche Present: The Argument Phase! For simplicity'sake we are going to create a hangout on air next saturday night featuring THREE fans of the show. We will try this format for a bit with the three getting on talking about "how they got into RPGs (thanks maxinstuff) How Did I End Up With RPGs ?Just as an interesting heads up apparently because of some of the background music choices youtube muted the sound...lame! I wasn't trying to sell anything. Not even the whole song on there..anyway I digress. What games they are playing..best game...worst game...etc...In reality I see it as an audio extension of what happens on the forums. Which I think is rather awesome. Thoughts ?
