Because i feel like somebody had to suggest it, it is the 500lb Grape Ape in DA house so maybe just acknowledge and talk about it for one episode or a part of one. After you guys read the book

"I looked at the Chapter list, and there was a chapter on Armor Class... I give it 2 out of 10" -Stu Venable
Actually, with both Savage Worlds and GURP's being quite heavy on the adding of low numbers to rolls and such, I would like for Stu to give a serious look at how Advantage and Disadvantage gets rid of some of the math, and especially gets rid of needing to scale the math so that bonuses matter in higher levels.
Also, just from being in the chatroom on Fridays, there are A LOT of people that think "Advantage and Disadvantage" is a "edges and hindrance" trait system, I think it would be worth outlining exactly what it is for the community so people can accurately talk about(or criticize) the system.

At some point I will run at least a one shot, maybe a 3-5 session arc in 5e.
I've read the new dice mechanics rules, and the advantage/disadvantage rule are far simpler and provide far less wiggle room for mechanic lawyers.
There is either advantage, disadvantage or nothing. It doesn't matter how many things give advantage, as it only takes 1 thing giving disadvantage to negate it and vice versa.
I like the fact that feats are optional.
I'm reading a page or so every couple of days.
We'll get to, I promise.

A translation is being worked on. Don't you mean: "In order for one to have a meaningful handbook there must be a translation" Aaron

I just glanced through my 1E DMG and am actually pretty shocked that my 10 year old mind could even understand all that garble. But I do remember just sitting their reading that crap for hours. (and of course looking at all the awesome art). And little things like this (pg 169): 37.media.tumblr.com/5aceead282d6ffab8d614b81aa5ddbbc/tumblr_n0e060jnlh1ro2bqto1_500.jpgAnd then again look at this gem (pg 110):

Having recently run some 1st edition stuff for some friends and feeling all nostalgic about AD&D, I was very pleasantly surprised by 5e. Somehow it retains that old feel with a fresh new take. It is mechanically smooth while still being very Dungeons & Dragons. Other than being level based, which I have a kneejerk negative reaction to I thought the system worked well. It adds some cool story/character elements without beating the players on the head about it. Tactical elements didn't feel forced like 4th edition did. It's worth having a look at.

Not sure if I think 5e deserves an entire episode, as no other system has ever really gotten a entire show solely dedicated to it. I would like to hear kneejerk opinions after reading the book, and informed opinions after playing/running 5e.
We deserve that much after listening to a year "Oh yeah, I'll buy the big three, and at least run a few games"

I'm joining a gaming group next Thursday for 5e Chargen (I'm actually playing in this game!), so thought I'd price up a Players Handbook. Amazon.co.uk has one for £26.95 ($43.43) with free delivery. Amazon.com has one at $29.99 (£18.60). I don't even want to look at shipping from the US (as I'm sure it will be extortionate), but the price difference seems a bit odd. Any overseas Jackers seen different prices in their country?

It's fucking stupid that they're not selling the PHB as a pdf. Stupid.
I like that they're (kind of) supporting FLGSs by giving some of them stock 11 days early -- and I know my FLGS is benefiting from this. That's nice.
But, still, it's 2014.

Yeah, the PDF thing is weird. I have the majority of my gaming books on PDF, and the selected few physical copies. I'd planned to get the core 3 basically just because, but the pricing thing has weirded me out.
