It's been dead, and it's been there for three years. I guess the cool kids know about this forum.

We have (almost) no darkness in sweden during summer, it starts to get light around 2am where I live and the darkness starts at 10pm.
We have most major brands of soda and chips but probably not all flavors.
The rest of the world have problems with DrPepper (and similar flavored drinks) because of toothpaste.
Sassafras that is used to flavor DrPepper is commonly used in toothpaste in other countries.

I really like this D&D fallacy thing. It reminds me of Godwin's Law, and if I can compare D&D to nazi's or hitler I think we have a winner... just saying >.>
May I also suggest reductio ad D&Dnum. Aka, playing the D&D card.

About the PC/NPC flag problem,in the anime/manga sub-genre the emailer said that game is based on the players of a VR MMO all get trapped in the game, with their bodies wasting away or they get hooked up to feeding tubes and stuff in a hospital. Since this happens to everyone who was playing the game, there will never be any new players. A simple solution is to say the flag effects how NPCs see the character, but does not disconnect the character from computer control.

Why do you guys say "She-ma-say"? Isn't Tzimisce pronounced "tzuh-mee'-see" or "zhi-mee'-shee"? All power to ya, I've just heard it with a more Eastern European way.

I'm going to agree with, and expand upon, what stork said about the creation of tension. Don't rely just on the mechanics. You can have them there and use them, but be descriptive. In addition to that, don't just be descriptive about what's happening, but let the players know what the rolls are for and what effect they can have. Assuming you have some decent RPers, many will gladly embrace there failed rolls (or not even care about the rolls and embrace the situation) and act accordingly. There characters will be more short-tempered, on edge, etc... It's fun to delve into that aspect of a character.

The talk of earthdawn and spending hp to accomplish things reminded me of something I've always wanted to do in an rpg. I love pilots. Fighter pilots, mobile suit pilots, you name it. They really get me going. I had a fate game at one point being built based on playing a pilot and one thing I knew was integral was the use of stress, consequences, and physique to push things to the limit. The idea of being strapped into a machine that could kill you just by jamming open the throttle. The question was never who was the fastest, but who wanted it and would fight for it the most.
It's the ultimate form of choice. The question was never if you could win, but how much you'd give up to win. How much can you take? L5R talks about asking a player how they will die, but I'd love to put my finger on that button instead. In a world where nothing can seem to have meaning, it's the ultimate escape and drama to leverage sacrifice into meaning.
I can even see the hero's journey of such characters, the refusal of the quest. It's the uncaring version of an intelligent sword of power, a silent terror waiting to be awoken by the brave and bold. Will you master your fear of death and ride into battle with enough conviction in your heart to take the stick and slam those throttles forward or will your fear of the machine master you?
Fighter pilots are like the samurai of the future. Their stories are the stories of mastering death. Ridding themselves of fear or finding something bigger to fight for, that is their struggle. What will you fight for?

One thing stork ended up saying that bugged me, though, was his example of how he'd adjudicate a tension-rising scene, wherein he'd just say "No" to attempts at combat-oriented results. "No, we aren't going to do it that way." Maybe it's the meds talking this morning, but at that point I'd just sit back in the chair and ask him what my character does from then on.

I think it was more about not rolling dice than no combat but I didn't take any meds at all :-)
