Did you sigh up to the Gauntlet Patreon tomes? Their games fill up so damn fast. Which is s good thing! I'm in that mix. Anyone interested or have questions just PM me. Yah, they fill up fast, and it is a good thing!

Speaking of Star Wars games... Rich Rogers from The Gauntlet runs Star Wars Saturdays games, where he uses various game systems to emulate Star Wars narratives... like 1%er for swoop gangs, or The Few (a WWI pilot game) to emulate The Rebel Few (a Rebel pilot game), or Apocalypse World to run a Tattoine style game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftYLp6JUYhE&list=PL26DVDSsqVz5DhRsMVdHOXW7vVWM8Z6qs

I love me some GMless games tomes but there is something that happens when a good GM creates an adventure that you get to experience. Not rails per se but a plot/world you get to roll around in and become deeply immersed. I love PbtA but I’ve heard both Stu Venable and Kimi bring this up...you can be the best non-meta gamer in the world but there’s something to be said when a mystery is truly a mystery to both character and player. One of my favorite game I've run at con has been my Star Frontiers adventure. Every time. It involves a strongly curated experience. It is almost as railroady as I get (you are GOING to investigate that distress call). It involves character AND player secrets, and that's worked out to its benefit each time. So yah, I get it. BUT, there is some little truth kernel in what I said above... I think GMless games are a way (just one way, but still) to teach people how to play together in a collaborative fashion, and to move towards GM-ing. It removes that barrier of "I couldn't possibly lead the story, I'm not creative enough" or whatever... No, fucker, you just did it, just as much as the rest of us. It is a way to ease someone into removing the pressure of thinking that the GM is responsible for everyone's fun, cause fuck that.

GM? Player?
More GMless games please. It shows everyone that any group can facilitate and run a game, and that the story that comes out of it is the result of everyone at the table. Many of these are super simple, and uber fun. Best easy examples, with rules that are a few pages: The Final Girl. The Quiet Year.
Teaches how to share the spotlight; listen to your compatriots; incorporate other players ideas into the story; be obvious (instead of trying to overshoot by being "creative" or "funny").
In fact, my argument is: Players and GMs that haven't played GMless games are the worst.
(come at me bro)

gina is my spirit animal... character choice? Last! I also find it forces me to react creatively, and tend to enjoy that.

2) Show, don't tell. You need never utter the word, "taint". Let it's dark manifestations show. I love this idea. Just using a different word when talking to peasants or others who have their own local word for 'evil' of this nature. In fact, the characters would probably be like "oh shit, what's this Darkcloud that all of them keep talking about and making wards against", only to find out eventually they're basically talking about the taint. Gives a bit of that "uneducated villagers" vibe, as they've got their own superstitions. And the next time a weird word comes up for some unknown evil, the PCs don't know if that's taint or something completely different, or imagined.

APs look very similar to the Friday cast in most pod catchers and new listeners or casual listeners may not be able to figure out what’s going on... To that end: maybe also consider using a different image / icon for the main cast vs the APs? The HJ 'cast vs AP are different streams, and I know I've mucked up my playlists before by accidentally including one vs the other in a playlist. I can't imagine what a new user much feel coming into this process. I know the live shows have a warning in the front to new listeners. I'm not necessarily advocating that for general episodes. But I'm also wondering how Kimi was asking about episodes that might be good starter ones... would it be worth having something extremely short like "New to the podcast? Episode 21-13 might be a good place to start!" It's short, could be updated occasionally as more recent "exemplary" episodes come out. Eh, it's an idea.

Also cheers to SirGuido for helping motivate us all to do this again! I've been super busy and I definitely wish I could've been more involved, but I like that this is becoming a tradition, and look forward to more (if possible)! Thanks Sir G!!

There were a few other sets of pretty dice, but the daughter took them. Coolest thing is that these sets of Black and Orangey-gold perfectly match my special FATE dice and Triple-Four dice. I now have a totally cool matching set of dice. Thanks kwickpick!

Like The header says, has anyone heard of this game or played it? I saw a YouTube game that made it seem interesting but wondering what the jacker community‘s exp has been. I haven't, but I've heard about it. There is this +1 Forward episode (which, to be fair, is probably where I heard about it): www.gauntlet-rpg.com/1-forward/pigsmokeThere's always a tiny 1-on-1 Actual Play at the end of these podcasts, so you can hear a little of how it might run.

I've never even heard of The Warren. Is it a "Watership Down" rpg? Exactly that.

I don't know if there is a term for this type of move, but you'll find it in some of the games... a generic catch-all. Defy Danger is that for Dungeon World. I think it's useful to know that you can default to this when someone tries something crazy. Like if you try to attack the dragon, the D&D player may think "OK, that's a hack and slack move", but no, motherfucker... that's a fucken Dragon. I'd make you roll some Defy Danger cause that bastard isn't gonna let you even come close to him before doing some preventative adventurer-mutilation. Sneak around the hobgoblin camp? If you are a thief you have a move for that, and the stakes are lower (a miss might be stepping on a twig, and the hobgoblin scout looking around for the noise). But if you ain't some sneaky ass thief? You roll some Defy Danger, and a miss is the hobgoblins hearing you and preparing to stab you without you being aware. (Might all depend on fiction and other unquantifiable bullshit.) My favorite move? Innovate in The Warren: I love that this normally comes up in unexpected moments. In one game someone was referring to The First Rabbit, which is sort of the analog for our earliest ancestor / god: "Well, The First Rabbit certainly wouldn't approve of that course of action." GM: "Hmm... sounds like you're speaking for the first rabbit. Roll Innovate." They succeeded... we created religion. In a game I was running we had a rabbit dictatorship starting to take place, and one of the small (PC) rabbits was pushing around some other senior rabbits, that were not on the "inside" team. We rolled innovate and created a "Bully someone above your station" move. I love that move. Note that on a miss, you just tried to do something rabbits can't do... and now won't be successfully able to do moving forward. I like that it has a built-in "No, you can't just keep trying" wording.

I was just listening to some recent episodes that I had seen online, but hadn't listened in podcast form. I found 21.04 (Stu, Kimi, Tappy, Jason), and the discussion of agency and fear (which I think had spiraled online and the week prior) was handled really well in this episode. I'm only half-way through, I'll let you know if it devolves :-) EDIT: Yep, I think it's, on the whole, a really good example episode. Even probablyok constantly reminding the rest of the hosts that they were in the middle of a question was perfect: shows how the show may normally devolve a bit, but kept it mostly on point. Each email was answered fairly thoroughly and the questions were all good.

Oh, because I heard the comment elsewhere... I'd definitely like to see more design guests. Oh, and seriously: Have Stu Venable as a guest one day, to talk about Moment of Truth and such, with Kimi or gina sitting in the drivers seat.

Oh, because I heard the comment elsewhere... I'd definitely like to see more design guests. Maybe even having the format slightly different when they come on. Instead of focusing on questions, focus on them, their designs, stories of success and failure in regards to design, playtesting, game cons, etc. Some locals come to mind: Monkeyfun Dave (Various games as you know, but like he's doing new stuff... let's hear about it!), mysticfedora (Happiest Apocalypse, and also new things), jazzisblues (Bad Streets), obviously Jason and demigods at some point too. Maybe have the corresponding guests very specifically chosen as well... e.g. if Dave is on, try to schedule the other guests on that episode that have played in his games. Maybe save questions that are pertinent to their GM style or games... as an example, "How to get better at improvise GMing?", "How to be dynamic and keep the table engaged?" Would love to hear some of these questions answered from many of these folks.
