I once ran a game that used Vampire:DA, and it started in the 1100's, and travelled to Modern Day, using Vampire:TM, and then a little ahead into the future. The players used the same characters throughout. The DA portion was more combat, the players making their bones, so to speak. The modern times were established Primogen of their clans, and was 90 percent political, with the occasional rough and tumble

I want to play! Getting a spare comp by then, so, yay. I'd love a bit of all. I've wanted to play a Courtier for a bit.

I may be able to soon, and I would *love* to. Should be getting a computer soon. Yay. As it is, I do this all on my phone.

I've seen them portrayed both ways through the years. My favorite has been a mix. Most of the elders in the Clan know why they do wha they do, and they feel their Duty to the Emperor is more important than clan or personal honor. However, some of the new clan members are steeped in it from birth, and dont see the duty aspect as much. Just the fun, etc. As for the other clans, some elders may be aware, but also knowing the purpose, and agreeing to it, keep their silence and let the ignorant stay so. This allows you to play the grand conspiracy on one level, and make your players realize that not all Scorpions are malicious.

I had the PDF's for the game, but my lady just bought me the hardbound core for Christmas (As well as a Boggards CD and a MWOW CD), and it's perhaps the most gorgeous book I own. I lied in Okinawa for a few years when young, and visited some other asian countries, so I have always felt at home with asian fantasy cultures.

The basics are simple in 4/20. Stat + Skill +/- modifier in d6's. Target number is always 5, and you need to pass a threshold of # of hits depending on difficulty of the task. Opposed rolls are the same. Like in all games, combat throws complications in, but even magic and the matrix follow similar lines.

Dammit, Man. You can't say shit like that and NOT expect a your mom response... And the best part of the night was my wife explaining to her in-laws what 'bukkake' is. And of course I fully expected mom jokes - if you can't appreciate a few disgusting jokes about your mother, you have no business playing Cards Against Humanity... And that's just convinced me to get it. Heh

I loved 2nd, but I really have fun with the 20th Aniv ruleset. It's pretty fantastic. I just got back into it, and am unsure abouth the 5th edition, as 4th/20th is pretty set aready. ButI am interested in the ganger game they are coming out with. They have a few side games that look awesome.

The emphasis there is mine. It's a miss, not a failure. Maybe it's a little nit-picky, but I think it's an important distinction. A miss doesn't mean that a character failed in whatever they were trying to do, it just means that it's the MC's turn in the conversation. 'Tis a good point.

I have enjoyed reading all the AW stuff. I really love the hard choice concept. It's my favorite bit. It's one thing to say, "Okay, you had. Partial success, so this happens and this happens" (Which I love doing as well), but a whole other realm of fun when you get to offer two choices and let them pick what it is. I am starting to incorporate partial success and choices into other games as well.
As for AW and varients, thought it would be nice if they had a single page breakdown of the concepts: 1 to 6, Failure. 7 to 9 is a partial success - here you get to let them make that hard choice, and 10+ succeeds. Soft moves are warnings or slaps on the wrist. Hard moves are a punch, so to speak. Fronts, I like to think of as Danger Outlines. Stupid name, I know, but it wrks for me.
